Russ is in Tupelo, MS at a skeet shoot or three. He's having fun, and I'm glad. It also gives me two weekend of my own to just laze around and do whatever I want. So, Friday, after I dropped Steven off at home from work (Michelle "abandoned" him after lunch,) I ran up to Hollywood video and got 3 movies to watch. I really needed the relaxation.
After last semester's finals, I got about a 15 minute break instead of 2 weeks. Dr. Y will be out of the office a lot this summer, and since he's my advisor on my grad project, we needed to get started if I'm going to get this done by August. With finals, talk of Russ moving to Japan, and Grandpa's death and service, I was beat. So, I took some recovery time this weekend.
I watched Amelie, a French film that was really cute, The Painted Veil, a W. Somerset Maugham novel that was great, and Children of Men, which was interesting. Of the three, I really recommend The Painted Veil. It's a slow, character film with Edward Norton and Naomi Watts, but excellent. Filmed in China's interior, the scenery is breathtaking.
I also set up my brand new MacBook Pro. It took a while to install my software, and I still have a little ways to go, but I'm really happy with it. I have a lot to learn on how to use it, but I'm quickly getting there.
Well, so much for relaxation, after yesterday. I woke up to the sound of Sebastian peeing on the floor in the bedroom. I was NOT happy. This is highly uncharacteristic of him. I guess he was trying to get me up. Then, after I cleaned that up and showered, I rounded up the cats to take them to the vet. I try to put them two to a kennel for the short ride so that I don't have to make several trips. I kept them at the shelter for the day so that I wouldn't have to run home twice in the middle of the day. Sophia went in the kennel fine, until I tried to insert Sebastian, and she played pop goes the weasel. So, I had to track her down again. Next was Samantha, and Sydney in with her. I got lucky with Samantha because every once in a while she'll try peeing on me to see if I'll drop her and she can run and hide. She didn't pee. Good. I got them to the shelter fine, but when I went to pick them up for the vet, they were a bit miffed and told me so. The vet drew blood for their rabies tests. Sophia acted up, Sebastian and Sydney just laid there, and Samantha did her Exorcist growl and squirmed. With that over, I took them back to the shelter. When I went back after my meeting w/ Dr. Y, Sophia was in a full on hissy fit. I had to wrap her in a towel to get her in the carrier. She was going to bite me until she realized who it was. It took two cans of kitty food last night to calm them down.
So, what a week. I keep hoping it's Friday, but it's not. Tonight, I'll stop by Michelle's to check their mail and plants and to raid their movie shelf. I have dinner at Thai Hut with Peggy from the Shelter. We haven't gotten together in a while, so this should be nice. Then, if I have the energy, maybe I'll do some dishes and laundry tonight. Yesterday was enough excitement for this week. With all the smoke in the air from the forrest fires (we had one two counties over last weekend,) we're not supposed to do a lot outside. I think I'll watch another movie.
